A stuck window can change an otherwise pleasant drive into a terrible experience. Such a simple thing as paying a toll will require you to open the door!
Fortunately, there are simple measures that you can take to solve the problem.
- Take off the door panel on the side with the stuck window. All you need to do is locate the holding screws and remove them.
- You will find a moisture barrier inside the door, which you will need to peel back carefully.
- Find the regulator located on the door, which is usually held by two bolts. You may need to lower the window manually to locate the bolts depending on your car model.
- Disconnect the regulator’s wiring, ensuring that you note how they were connected.
- Remove the regulator after removing its bolts.
- Install a new regulator in its place and fix it with the bolts.
- Reconnect the wiring to the new regulator.
- Put back the moisture barrier.
- Fix the panel to the door frame after ensuring that everything is in order.
- Turn the ignition key and test the power window.
Repairing a power window usually means that something has went wrong with either the window regulator or track. It is easily loosened and can become misaligned. Most DIY mechanics can perform this adjustment in a few hours. It might just require the adjustment of one loose bolt or the replacement of the entire track mechanism. You will not know until you get the door off.
