How to take A 1999 Volkswagen Jetta Door Panel Apart

Taking apart a Jetta Door Panel is easy if you follow the below steps.

1

Make sure the window is down gently removing the louver. Start by prying out the inner handle piece. This looks like a decorative bar across the well that is used to pull the closed. Put a thin towel over the edge of the putty knife to avoid tearing the material.  Once it is 1/8 of an inch out you can remove it by hand. Take the second part off the door handle by prying front and back to about 1/8 inch and unclipping it.

2

Disconnect the electrical harness for both window and door controls. Remove the three Phillips screws.

3

The 3 passenger doors are made differently, but you will begin the same way. With the window all the way down and using the putty knife with the towel for cushion,  pry off the outer door handle piece, you will do this by prying the front and then the back up far enough that it is easily pulled off.

4

Remove all 5 screws you see there and the inner handle will come right off.

5

Now this is where the procedure is the same for both passengers is the same for both passenger and drivers’ side. Remove the T20 Torx screws that hold the door panel on at the bottom. Take the Phillips head screw out near the front speaker grill this is inside where the door hinges are. There are 6 snaps, 3 at the front and another identically placed set o f3 at the rear of the door panel.

6

Disconnect the door lock cables and remove the entire handle assembly. Unfasten the 4 clips and push out the front of the assembly, slide forward to remove take off the tweeter grill. It is attacked with one screw and 3 clips. Take the foam out and remove the T45 Torx screw. The whole panel should slip off now.
